We couldn’t find a retailer rating for this model that we could check, so the score comes from one editorial review: MadeForMums gave it 4.7. That’s marked as thin evidence, and we’ll add shop ratings when we can.

The main complaint is the same as with any player like this: the player is a one-off cost, but the cards keep coming. Setup also needs a parent with the app and Wi-Fi, and MadeForMums points out that the small cards go missing.

Compared with the Toniebox 2, the Yoto suits slightly older children better, and it does more as a bedside gadget. The Toniebox is easier for a one- or two-year-old. Pick one or the other, not both.

What reviewers praise

  • Children can work it themselves
  • A big library of cards, plus your own recordings
  • Night light, clock and white noise built in

What they complain about

  • Cards cost extra and the bill adds up
  • Needs a parent's phone, the app and Wi-Fi to set up
  • Small cards are easy to lose
Not for
A family that already has a Toniebox. The content doesn't move between the two.
